Where do I look for log file information for the IDE or the deployment servers?

The log file for the IDE is located as follows:

  $HOME\.netbeans\$release_num\var\log\message.log

You can also open this file from the IDE Tools menu by choosing Tools > IDE Log File.

The log file for the Sun Java System Application Server Platform Edition 8 is located as follows:

  $SunAppServer8\domains\domain1\logs\server.log

Note: there are two errors in the Application Server log file that are known to be harmless. Please ignore the following:

   * java.lang.ClassNotFoundException for a variety of LogStrings classes
   * SEVERE errors that look like this:
[#|2003-11-26T20:08:11.337-0800|SEVERE|j2ee-appserver1.4|javax.enterprise.system.tools.admin|_ThreadID=11;
ObjectName [Ias:type=clusters,category=config] cant be registered as the configuration does not have
it|#]

These log files can be examined to see what problems may be occurring. They are also required for bug report submissions.

The log file for bundled tomcat can be found at: $netbeans/enterprise3/apache-tomcat-5.5.17/logs
