Basic Information

What: A usability study to test the basic features of the new PHP support in NetBeans.

When: Thursday, June 26th, from approximately 9:00 am to 8:00 pm, usability lab 3328 at PRG06 (3rd floor). The individual sessions will be:

  • 9.00 - 10.30 - Windows user
  • 11.00 - 12.30 - No show - rescheduled for Tuesday morning
  • 14.00 - 15.30 - Mac user
  • 16.00 - 17.30
  • 18.00 - 19.30

Who: We plan to observe 5 experienced PHP developers. We would like to recruit 3 Windows users, 1 Linux user, and 1 Mac user. Also, there should be a mix of users who develop in IDEs and text editors.

Where: PRG06 Usability lab, 3rd floor.

Why: Because PHP is a new area for NetBeans and we want to observe real users using our tool in order to gain valuable feedback before the 6.5 release is finished.

Features to Test

See PHPUIStudy2008

  • New project creation
  • Creating a project with existing sources (we will probably ask users to bring in a memory stick with an existing project)
  • Switching run configurations
  • Editor features
  • Running and debugging
  • Code navigation (searching, find usages, navigator, etc.)
  • FTP? Probably will not be implemented in time
