NetBeans Sessions for Sun Tech Days

Session 1: Welcome / New & Cool in NetBeans 6.5

  • Abstract: This session covers the Sun's award-winning open-source IDE NetBeans and demonstrates how it can help Java and Scripting developers can become more productive.

This session starts with an introduction of some of the basic features of IDE showing code completion, refactoring, testing, and debugging. Also will show what all features are included for free in the base IDE and how to use them. For example: bundled Application servers, database, version control etc.

  • This session covers some of the new features in NetBeans 6.1 and 6.5 from the listed below:
  • Scripting support for Ruby, PHP, JavaScript
  • Hibernate Framework Support,
  • Eclipse project import, and compile on save

Session 2: Scripting Languages made easy with NetBeans

  • Abstract: This session will give an overview of the dynamic language support in Sun's open-source, cross-platform IDE Netbeans 6.5 including Ruby, Groovy, JavaScript, Python, and PHP. The talk will cover some of the basic productivity features such as code completion, quick fixes and semantic checks, and error highlighting as well as some of the new features including Groovy and Grails support, JavaScript debugging, and PHP Web Services. The session will then focus on JRuby and PHP and how NetBeans 6.5 can enhance a developer's experience by providing a productivity boost without losing the speed, intuitiveness, and simplicity of a text editor.

Session 3: Developing Swing Applications using NetBeans

  • Abstract: Over the past few years, we have seen tremendous improvements in Swing GUI toolkit. Its now easier to use, prettier to behold, faster loading time and more responsive. In this session, we will introduce some of these new Swing enhancements, tips on writing more performant Swing based applications, tighter desktop integration and deployments options and new technologies on the horizon like the Swing application framework. We will show you how you can leverage NetBeans IDE to enhance your development experience.
