How to install the NetBeans Platform via the RPM Package Manager on Fedora?

  • Fedora 10 or later.
  • An RPM binary package file of the NetBeans Platform is accessible for the RPM Package Manager.
    Note, a name pattern of the NetBeans Platform RPM binary package is:
  • All RPM packages required for the NetBeans Platform RPM binary package are installed.
    Note, you can use the RPM Package Manager to get list of required packages, e.g.
    rpm -qpR netbeans-platform-6.8-2.fc13.noarch.rpm

  • Type the following commands in the terminal:
    $ su -
    # rpm -ivh $PACKAGE_FILE
    where $PACKAGE_FILE is specified according to the RPM Package Manager man page: "... the PACKAGE_FILE can be either rpm binary file or ASCII package manifest (see PACKAGE SELECTION OPTIONS), and may be specified as an ftp or http URL, in which case the package will be downloaded before being installed. ..."
E.g. it is valid command:
# rpm -ivh http://kojipkgs.fedoraproject.org/packages/netbeans-platform/6.5/7.fc12/noarch/netbeans-platform-6.5-7.fc12.noarch.rpm

The Fedora Build System (AKA Koji) saves the NetBeans Platform RPMs for all Fedora releases that are currently supported.
