My message didn't show up on the list!
If you receive other messages, but you don't see your own, this can have several causes:
- Your message might be awaiting moderation. See the answer why messages can be delayed.
- Similarly if you're not subscribed, you won't get a copy of your own message, so you'll need to check the web archives or the news groups to see your own message. Note that it might take an hour or so to show up in the archive.
- Some lists are not open for public posting. For example traffic on nbannounce, the top level announcements list, is heavily restricted, open only to high-level announcements.
- If you use Gmail: Gmail automatically removes copies of your own messages from the inbox.
Of course spam, viruses, offensive or wildly off-topic posts are not tolerated. If you've sent off-topic or malicious content, your message will be moderated and rejected. A moderator or list admin may then unsubscribe you, which will cause any further messages from you to be moderated. A moderator or admin will let you know about this action if that was the case.
