My NetBeans IDE consumes a lot of memory. What can I do?

If you are using 64-bit operating system, you can try to start NetBeans with:

-J-XX:+UseCompressedOops

This should save memory, as it is shown in the next table:

clean & build GC
64-bit 380 MB 70 MB
64-bit UseCompressedOops 320 MB 54 MB
32-bit 220 MB 42 MB

Used: NetBeans 6.9 dev (PHP + Java), JDK 1.6.0_16, project LimeWire.
