How do I administer the deployment servers?

The NetBeans IDE provides some administration functions with the IDE. These functions include starting and stopping the server (see How do I start and stop the deployment servers?), as well as undeploying an application or resource. You can find these items in the pop-up menus for the various nodes under Servers node in the Runtime window.

Note that In order to access the console to administer a deployment server, the deployment server must be running.

To launch the administrative console for an Application Server from the NetBeans IDE:

  1. In the Runtime window, expand the Servers node.
  2. Right-click on deployment server's node and select View Admin Console from the pop-up menu

To launch the administration console for the bundled Tomcat application server from outside of the IDE

  1. Open a web browser to the URL for the administrative console. By default this is http://localhost:8080/admin/
If this port is in use by another process during installation, a nearby unused port will be assigned.
  2. Enter a user name and password for the admin server.
If you don't have a user name or password, check the tomcat-users.xml file in the conf subdirectory of Tomcat's base directory. To identify the location of this directory, right-click the Tomcat Web Server instance node in the Runtime window and select Properties. In the Properties dialog box, the Base Directory property points to Tomcat's base directory.

To learn the port numbers used by your application servers, and to set them, select Tools > Server Manager from the Main menu to open the Server Manager.
