Voice of Community (VOC) Process

We are sorry, but currently the Voice Of Community program is suspended. In spite of that, during 18 VOC meetings in 2009 the VOC team together evaluated over 60 VOC issue candidates, brought interesting ideas and helped to fix some of the problems. We very much appreciate all the hard work of VOC Captains. Thank you guys and gal!

Active NetBeans community is rapidly growing and similarly its feedback. Increasing overall satisfaction with NetBeans will support Word of Mouth adoption of the IDE which will support further growth of NetBeans userbase. That's why we need a coordinated process whose primary motivation is to fix issues not only show that we care.

  • listen to community not only during stabilization phase (NetCAT)
  • incorporate input from community into release planning
  • try to address as many issues as possible throughout whole release cycle

Now i.e. since NetBeans 6.7.

VOC miniteam consisting of:

  • monitor sources [1] of community feedback
  • identify actual VOC topics [2]
  • meet bi-weekly online, discuss, select hot VOC issues
  • consensus (each representative has a Veto)
  • forward VOC issues for resolution to responsible i-Team & track progress
  • only limited # open VOC issues at once per i-Team
  • VOC issue has priority
  • public voc@netbeans.org mailing list - single channel for VOC feedback
  • each identified VOC issue ends up in IssueZilla + reply to its source
  • monthly summary reports

  • all VOC topics reported as issues & evaluated
  • fix 30% of issues reported by community
