Where can I find the UML modeling plugin for NetBeans?
Starting with NetBeans 6.8, the UML modeling plugin is no longer available. No further development is planned. Those who wish to use UML in NetBeans IDE must use NetBeans IDE 6.7 or earlier and get the plugin from the Beta Update center.
UML Documentation for NetBeans IDE is available in a downloadable zip archive: http://netbeans.org/projects/usersguide/downloads/download/NB61-UMLdocs.zip
Developers have the following options for using UML modeling:
SDE for NetBeans from Visual Paradigm
Visual Paradigm is a NetBeans partner and provides a UML tool that integrates with NetBeans IDE. There is a free community version, but note that code generation and other key features are only available in the fully-licensed version that costs money. For details see http://www.visual-paradigm.com/product/sde/nb/provides/umlmodeling.jsp.
JDeveloper from Oracle
This is a free offering from Oracle with full-featured and comprehensive UML capabilities that are ideal for advanced UML users. The UML code can be generated in JDeveloper and then imported into NetBeans IDE.
More information about this UML tool is available at http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/jdev/htdocs/netbeans/uml.html.
