Document Structure

The document is currently unstructured and presents its information in a way that might prevent the interested audience from understanding the presented information. I propose that the presented information should be structured based on for example existing documentation on versioning strategies. Perhaps you can contribute with more specific examples. For my part, I will try to find one or two specific examples, that might serve as a base for structuring the existing content. Axnsoftware

Automatic/Semi-Automatic Versioning on Branch/Iteration

Must users make these increments manually or are they actually automated by the NetBeans Plugin Development plugins?

In the document you state that: [...] (The extra .0 is required for modules in the NetBeans distribution. When sources are branched for a release, spec.version.base is incremented to 1.0.1, 1.0.2, ... for each release on the branch. "Trunk" (development) changes increment the first or second digits, e.g. 1.1.0, 1.2.0, ...) [...]

I propose that the existing document should be more clear about what is automated and what requires manual intervention by the user.

And, the very specific note on that an extra .0 is required for modules in the NetBeans distribution left me completely lost, as I usually use a Release.Version.Maintenance level type of versioning myself.

And, considering that

and that the [sic] "extra .0 is required for netbeans only modules", I am left short of the extra maintenance level I require for my own versioning policy...

And, considering that module dependencies towards implementation versions are considered "bad practice", I presume that the presented information is either outdated or the existing versioning scheme ultimately limits the user in applying his own specific versioning requirements.

Perhaps you might want to clear up things a bit? Axnsoftware
