Start Page Test Specification for NetBeans 7

Introduction: This test specification describes the tests scenarios for Start Page. It covers the test cases for manual testing and it will serve as document for development of automated tests. This TS is based on old TS for NetBeans 6.1.

Test suite: Start Page test

Purpose: Test of Start Page invocation and links availability.
Setup: Run IDE with clean userdir.

  1. Open Start Page
    1. Select menu Help | Start Page.
    • EXPECTED RESULT: Start Page appears as a new tab in explorer and its name is 'Start Page'.
  2. Try disabling and enabling Show On Startup
    1. Uncheck Show On Startup checkbox on Start Page.
    2. Restart IDE.
    3. Select menu Help | Start Page.
    4. Check Show On Startup checkbox on Start Page.
    5. Restart IDE.
    • EXPECTED RESULT: Start Page should appear on startup when checkbox is checked and should not appear when checkbox is unchecked.
  3. Learn & Discover links
    1. Click on the links in Learn & Discover tab -> Take a Tour, What's New, Community Corner and try some links from 'Demos & Tutorials' section including 'All Online Documentation >>' link.
    2. Try links from 'Featured Demo' section.
    • EXPECTED RESULT: Page corresponding to the link's name is opened in HTML Browser.
  4. Sample Project
    1. Click on Learn & Discover tab and then click on Try a Sample Project link.
    • EXPECTED RESULT: New Project wizard is opened and 'Samples' folder should be selected, activated and opened.
  5. What's New links
    1. Click on the What's New tab.
    2. Check some links from 'News & Tutorials' and 'Blogs' sections.
    3. Click on the 'All News >>', 'All Tutorials >>' and 'All Blogs >>' buttons.
    • EXPECTED RESULT: Page corresponding to the link's name is opened in HTML Browser.
  6. Recent projects
    1. Have My NetBeans tab selected.
    2. Create or open some project.
    3. Close the project.
    4. Check if the project appeared in recent projects.
    5. Check persistence of this project in recent projects (close/open Start Page and IDE restart).
    • EXPECTED RESULT: Closed projects appear in Recent Projects on Start Page
  7. Plugin manager from Start Page - Available Plugins tab
    1. Have My NetBeans tab selected.
    2. Click on Install Plugins button.
    • EXPECTED RESULT: Plugin Manager is opened with Available Plugins tab active.
  8. Plugin manager from Start Page - Installed tab
    1. Have My NetBeans tab selected.
    2. Click on Activate Features button.
    • EXPECTED RESULT: Plugin Manager is opened with Installed tab active.
  9. Try clicking on Java and Oracle logos
    1. Click on the Java logo in lower right part of Start Page.
    2. Click on the Oracle logo in lower left part of Start Page.
    • EXPECTED RESULT: Corresponding page is opened in HTML Browser.
  10. Close Start Page
    1. Push x-widget on the tab of the Start Page.
    • EXPECTED RESULT: The 'Start Page' tab will disappear.
