XML Layer Test Specifications for NetBeans 7.1

Introduction: The New Module wizard doesn't contain option for generating layer.xml explicitely. As Netbeans IDE 7.1 makes use of annotations which internally uses layer files this option is removed from the New Module Wizard of Netbeans IDE.

Test suite: New Netbeans Platform Module

Purpose: To verify occurrence of xml layer checkbox.
Setup: Start NetBeans IDE

  1. New Module Project
    1. File | New Project or use shortcut Ctrl + Shift + N. Under Categories, select NetBeans Modules. Under Projects, select Module. Click Next.
    2. Provide Project Name and Location and Click Next.
    3. In the Basic Module Configuration panel, observe the check boxes beneath "Localizing Bundle" textfield.
    • EXPECTED RESULT: "Generate XML Layer" checkbox and "XML Layer" TextField should not be there after "Localizing Bundle" textfield.


Test suite: XML Layer file in module

Purpose: To search for XML Layer File in project.
Setup: Create a New Module project.

  1. Create a new Module project
    1. File | New Project or use shortcut Ctrl + Shift + N. Under Categories, select NetBeans Modules. Under Projects, select Module. Click Next.
    2. Provide Project Name and Location and Click Next.
    3. You will see a new window (Basic Module Configuration), provide "Code Name Base" as "org.sample.sampleModule" and "Module Display Name" as "sampleModule", Click on Finish.
    4. A new Module will be created, Browse through "Important Files" folder and Search for "layer.xml" file.
    • EXPECTED RESULT:Project tree should not contain any file named "layer.xml".


Test suite: Adding new layer file

Purpose: Add new layer.xml file in the project.
Setup: New Module is created.

  1. "Add XML Layer"
    1. Right click on Project name in Project Explorer, select New | Module Development | XML Layer | Next | Finish.
    • EXPECTED RESULT: A new "Layer.xml" file will be created under "Source Packages" and "XML Layer" is shown in "Important Files" folder in project tree. "layer.xml" file will not contain any data.


Test suite: Try to create another layer file

Purpose: To verify that only one XML Layer can be added to project.
Setup: New Module is created and layer.xml is added.

  1. Creating another XML Layer
    1. Right click on Project name in Project Explorer, select New | Module Development | XML Layer.
    • EXPECTED RESULT: An error messge will be shown "This project already has an XML layer".
