NetBeans Download Page Questions and Issues

Contents

Download tabs

Now each download page contains download tabs.
For dev builds they are : <latest release> | <latest milestone> | current | <archive>
For milestone builds they are : <latest release> | current | <development> | <archive> For releases builds they are : current | <development> | <archive>

When a new release comes, it becomes important to update <latest> release at previous builds (milestones and dev). This is a lot of manual work...

Scalability

Currently it is hard to extend the number of bundles - it requires a lot of manual work and, the worst thing, there is no space left on the d/l page to do that.
Adding additional platforms (e.g. Linux x86_64, Mac OS 10.4, Mac OS 10.5) is not obvious as well.

Other bundles on main d/l page

It is not obvious and seems to be impossible to incorporate bundles that are created during another build (e.g. MySQL) to the current d/l page. Links for EE Tools/JDK bundles are also almost invisible for the users.

Language detection and selection

The Download page is displayed in the language which is specified as default for the used browser. If a non-localized browser is used, d/l page will be displayed in English. To view the Download page in Chinese, Japanese, or Brazilian Portuguese, it is possible to select the relevant language from the Choose Page Language drop-down list at the top of the Download page. More info at the Issue 124755.

En bits on ML page

Now it is not possible to download en-only bits from ML download page (Issue 136666).

Community translations

It is important to have one page for builds with officially translated languages and community translated ones.
It is also worth to show the percentage of translation for each netbeans component (pack) if it is translated only partially in particular language.

Companion Project Banners, Analitycs, etc

Now we have to always sync manually the list and format of banners, analitycs (omniture, google, etc) and other similar stuff used at www.netbeans.org and d/l page.

Zip bundles sizes

Now the size of zip bundles on d/l page is hard coded - it is worth to use is from the build artifacts (on the started page it is shown correctly).
