Documentation Handoff Table for NetBeans IDE 6.0

The following table includes Sun-provided documentation of NetBeans IDE 6.0 for which we are requesting translation. This list does not include:

  • J2EE BluePrints docs
  • Docs concerning technology bundles (such as Java SE, Sun Java System Application Server, etc.)
  • Docs for modules in the Plugin Portal, such as Collaboration Modules and VCS Generic.

This table contains two "Handoff Milestone" columns, which contain numbers representing dates that we make the respective docs available to the translation teams. For the "80% Handoff Milestone", the doc should be complete enough that it is presentable for use, e.g. as a beta doc. For the "100% Handoff Milestone", the doc should be considered done with no further review planned.

The key to the dates represented by numbers in the two Handoff Milestones columns are available here: NB6UmbrellaDocPlan#section-NB6UmbrellaDocPlan-DocMilestones. These dates generally correspond to key milestones in the release cycle, such as having docs ready for review on the staging server before a release (be it for beta, release candidate, or final release). (We are using milestone numbers instead of actual dates in this table to limit maintenance headaches if the schedule changes)

How to get a word count of your document for L10N:

  1. Open the html file/tutorial/document in a web browser.
  2. Copy all of the text (ctrl+a).
  3. Paste all text into empty Open Office document (ctrl+v).
  4. In Open Office, go to Main menu, Tools > Word Count.
  5. A pop up window shows a word count and total characters typed. Round the word count up or down to the nearest '00 or '50 digit. This is accurate enough for L10N to make their estimates and allocate resources. eg: 2142 rounds up to 2150, 2217 rounds down to 2200, etc
