Prioritized List of Activities

Java EE team, NetBeans 6.0 release

This is a living document. Below is the state as of Dec 18, 2006.


The following are the main activities we work on, in priority order:


  1. Migration to Retouche
  2. Support for AS 9.1 in NB 6 and 5.5.1
  3. Support for JBoss 5 in NB 6 and 5.5.1
  4. Maintaining quality/fixing bugs during the development cycle
  5. Enable Javascript editing in HTML/JSP
  6. Visual Web Pack integration
  7. Requirements from Matisse - Java Persistence in IDE cluster
  8. Project import - allow importing any project
  9. Remove closed source components
  10. Speed up deployment (in place deployment of EAR files to Sun AS)
  11. Review and stabilize APIs
  12. Adoption of NetBeans 5.5 (presentations, articles, e-mail aliases, ...)
  13. Facelets support
  14. Mnemonics cleanup, honor mnemonics coding conventions
  15. P3 features from NB 6 plan: additional web frameworks, additional servers, JSP/HTML editing enhancements
  16. Replace usage of ErrorManager in enterprise cluster (78883)
  17. Get rid of the old options infrastructure, use NbPreferences
  18. Options redesign, get rid of advanced options



The following activities are an integral part the development cycle, so they are not even mentioned above:


  • Writing and maintaining tests
  • Code cleanup as appropriate via PMD
  • Writing and reviewing design and UI specs
