Fedora 10 - How to install the NetBeans 6.5?

The NetBeans 6.5 packages are not released yet for Fedora 10. Nevertheless, if you need install the NetBeans 6.5 ASAP on your Fedora 10 box then you can use versions of the packages from the rawhide repo.

To do this the following steps are required (Note, you will need have superuser privileges for completing this):

If NetBeans 6.1 has NOT been installed on your Fedora box then

  • Enable rawhide repo and install netbeans-6.5 via the yum tool
yum --enablerepo=rawhide install netbeans-6.5

If NetBeans 6.1 has been already installed on your Fedora box then

  • Enable rawhide repo and install java-1.6.0-openjdk-devel via the yum tool
yum --enablerepo=rawhide install java-1.6.0-openjdk-devel
  • Erase old versions of the NetBeans packages
rpm -e netbeans-6.1
rpm -e netbeans-apisupport1-6.1
rpm -e netbeans-java2-6.1
rpm -e netbeans-ide9-6.1
rpm -e netbeans-platform8-harness-6.1
rpm -e --nodeps netbeans-platform8-6.1
  • Enable rawhide repo and install netbeans-6.5 via the yum tool:
yum --enablerepo=rawhide install netbeans-6.5

Note, both these variants of actions will download 143M from the repo to update and install packages on your Fedora 10 box.
