Is there a platform-independent NetBeans installer?

Yes. There is a platform-independent distribution of the installer. Use it if your firewall does not allow downloading executable files, or if you want to install the IDE on a different Java-capable platform, such as a sub-notebook.

• Go to the download page.
  • The download page contains the current version of NetBeans IDE.
  • To get development versions (daily builds), click the "Development" tab on the download page.
• Select "platform-independent" from the Platform drop-down menu.
• After downloading, extract the zip file and run the executable located at netbeans/bin/netbeans
