FaqWin7x64OutputMissing

Output window always empty on my 64bit Win7 installation

Problem: I have installed Win7 x64 with 64bit JDK. All seems OK except that there is no contents in the output window. Nothing is being logged!

Solution: The simple work around that has worked is to install the 32bit JDK instead of the 64 bit JDK.

Useful tips ...

After installing the 32 bit JDK you must remember to "point" Netbeans to the correct JDK - in C:\Program Files\NetBeans 6.8\etc\netbeans.conf now has the line netbeans_jdkhome="C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_19" pointing to the correct JDK.

Also to edit that file I needed to copy it to my desktop - edit it there - then copy it back into position.

I was a little worried that things would be slower without the 64bits - but my testing showed maybe a 5% reduction. Our typical full compile was around 42 seconds - and after it increased by 2-3 seconds. I was happy with that.
