How do I use the Update Center through a (company etc) firewall?

It is possible to specify a proxy to use directly from Plugin manager (or Update Center wizard in case of NetBeans 5.* and older). In addition to that the IDE immediately suggests to configure the proxy in case of a connection failure.

If you use NetBeans 6.* and newer

  1. In the Plugins manager switch to Settings tab and click the Proxy Settings button.
  2. Options window gets opened on the General page where you can set both the proxy host and port number.

If you use NetBeans 5.* and older

  1. On the first page of the Update Center Wizard, select the Proxy Configuration button.
  2. In the HTTP Proxy Settings window, set the proxy host and port number.
